James Cameron Reveals He’s Working on a New Terminator
The recently released Terminator Zero trailer showed Judgement Day and anime colliding in the eight-episode series, which is heading to Netflix later this year.
The series takes the famous James Cameron character through two separate timelines: 2022, where a decades-long war rages between the few human survivors and an endless army of machines, and 1997, where the artificial intelligence known as Skynet has gained self-awareness, beginning its war against humanity.
In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Terminator founding father James Cameron spoke about the upcoming series while also teasing that a new Terminator project may be coming from him in the future.
"My relationship to [Terminator Zero] is very much like The Sarah Connor Chronicles — other people spinning stories in a world I set in motion is interesting to me," Cameron told THR, "I'd be curious to see what they've come up with."
That's when Cameron teased that he's not done with Terminator, saying, "I'm working on my own Terminator stuff right now."
However, Cameron refused to tease more about what that project is, quoting Top Gun, "It's totally classified."
"I don't want to have to send out a potentially dangerous robotic agent if you were to talk about it, even retroactively," Cameron joked.
Cameron has dedicated his recent years to his beloved Avatar series, which kick-started when the first film was released in 2009 and made $2.7 billion at the box office. It is still the highest-grossing film of all time, and this past weekend, Cameron confirmed Avatar 3's new title and release date at D23.
