“If you had the chance to cast any of the GOTG stars in the DC Universe, who would you cast them as?” a fan asked on Threads, to which Gunn responded, “Well that would be a spoiler wouldn’t it?”
After directing him as Peter Quill (aka Star-Lord) in all three installments of Guardians of the Galaxy, Gunn had fans talking when he posted a photo of Pratt visiting him on the set of Superman: Legacy in June. When asked if he’d consider joining the DCU, Pratt told TMZ, “Yes, of course.”
“If it could fit into my schedule and it made sense, I would love it,” he added. “Of course I love playing Star-Lord, and hopefully there;s a chance that can come back. I just feel so blessed to be able to do any of it, to be considered for any of it. If it’s right and the fans would love it, I’d be more than happy to do it.”
Pratt noted “there’s always a chance” he could make the leap to the competing franchise, but he refused to speculate which character he’d play. “I just have to leave that to the fans and people like James to decide,” he said. “I’m not exactly sure. I’m truly not sure.”
Klementieff, who played Mantis in GOTG Vol. 2 and Vol. 3, also revealed talks with Gunn at San Antonio’s Superhero Comic Con in June. “I just want to keep working with James, so we’re going to keep trying to find ways to do that,” she said. “Yes, we’ve been talking about one specific character, but I can’t talk about that right now.”
Meanwhile, James’ actor brother Sean Gunn is joining the DCU as villain Maxwell Lord after playing Kraglin Obfonteri in the GOTG movies. The director has since explained that he’s not opposed to casting more MCU actors in his upcoming DCU work.
Last month, director Gunn celebrated on Instagram as filming wrapped on Superman: Legacy, which premieres on July 11, 2025.
