Jamie-Lynn Sigler says she's playing Disney's first Jewish princess but Sarah Silverman disagrees
Actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler’s announcement this week that she’ll be providing the voice of Disney’s first Jewish princess didn’t go over well with comedian Sarah Silverman.

Sigler shared her excitement at providing the voice of a character, a princess from a Latino Jewish kingdom, who will reportedly appear on an upcoming, Hanukkah-themed episode of Disney Junior show Elena of Avalor.
While a writer for the animated series backed up Sigler’s tweet, Silverman responded with a, “Um...” That’s because the former I Love You, America host believes that her character in 2012’s Wreck-It Ralph, a princess in exile named Vanellope Von Schweetz, is being overlooked.
Silverman told Yahoo Entertainment in November 2018 that her character in the movie is Jewish, like her. She noted that she and her character “have the same coloring.” Silverman added, “She’s feisty, she says what’s on her mind, she’s a little pushy.”
At the time, the movie’s directors, Rich Moore and Phil Johnston, agreed with Silverman. In fact, Moore weighed in on Sigler’s post about voicing the “first” Jewish Disney princess. He told Sigler she wasn’t the first, but welcomed her to “the family.”

But fans of Von Schweetz were behind Silverman. They quickly noticed Sigler’s post and paid tribute to the Wreck-It Ralph character and the woman behind it.

After someone commented on Sigler’s post, “We Stan Vanellope!! ... but we also love @JamieLSigler,” Silverman followed up with her own response.
“Me too!!” she wrote.
Other fans noted the importance of having a Jewish Disney princess, regardless of who provides her voice.

WE’RE GETTING A JEWISH DISNEY PRINCESS!!! I’m going to cry. Growing up, Rugrats was my only Jewish holiday special (thank you, Rugrats). I am so happy my daughter will get more representation. #ElenaOfAvalor #RepresentationMatters https://t.co/gVGF8UCBiD
