Jane Seymour's 6 Children: Everything to Know
Jane Seymour has six kids: Jenni, Katherine, Sean, Kalen, John and Kristopher
Fans know her as Dr. Quinn, medicine woman, a Wild West frontier doctor who cared for her adopted family and an entire town — but off-screen, Jane Seymour was taking care of her own six children: Jenni, Katherine, Sean, Kalen, John and Kristopher.
“The kids know I would choose family over any role and over anything in my life,” Seymour told The Guardian in 2013. “I don't know if I'm a great mum. I'm the best mum I know how to be. I think it's all about listening to your children, communicating and caring enough to be involved in their life.”
Seymour was married and divorced twice before she had children. She was first married to Michael Attenborough from 1971 to 1973 and then to Geoffrey Planer from 1978 to 1979. The actor married David Flynn in 1981, and Seymour became stepmother to his daughter Jenni Flynn, born in 1980.
The couple welcomed Katherine Flynn in 1982 and Sean Flynn in 1985. Seymour and Flynn divorced in 1992, and the next year she married James Keach, who already had son Kalen Keach, born in 1977. Seymour and Keach had twin sons, John and Kristopher, in 1995 and later divorced in 2015.
Though she only gave birth to four of her children, Seymour has said that she doesn’t consider her former stepchildren to be any different than her blood relatives.
“We don't use the word stepkids,” she told The Guardian. “We do not distinguish. I'm very proud of all my children, and I spend a lot of time with them. ... If I co-parent a child, as I did Kalen and Jenni, I'm incredibly close to those mothers and their stepfathers. Jenni's sisters from her mother's following marriage will spend Christmas or New Year's with me. My twins refer to Kalen's two brothers from his mother's then-marriage as their brothers from another mother.”
Here's everything to know about Jane Seymour’s six children, Jenni, Katherine, Sean, Kalen, John and Kristopher.
Kalen Keach, 56
Kalen Keach was born in 1977 to actor James Keach and his then-wife, Holly Collins, who is the sister of folk musician Judy Collins.
As an actor, Kalen appeared in projects like the TV show The Young Riders in 1991 and 1992 and the TV movie Submerged (2001). Kalen has also worked behind the scenes, producing the short films Sylvia and The Pinston Café in 2000 and working as a set dresser on Blind Dating in 2006.
Jenni Flynn Adams, 44
Jenni Flynn Adams, who is married to Chris Adams and goes by Flynn Adams, was born on May 5, 1980. The daughter of David Flynn and his first wife Lynda Rowen, Adams studied English and political science at Vassar College, according to her LinkedIn page.
Adams is the former chief marketing officer of BitTorrent, a peer-to-peer file-sharing software. In 2016, she founded the cybersecurity company Inteliqore with actor Brian Austin Green. With the company, she’s working to eradicate cyberattacks with TRIPP, or the Threat Resolution and Incident Preservation Platform, inspired by the online attacks she experienced as a woman in tech.
"A human being's sense of safety should not be up to an algorithm,” Adams told PEOPLE in 2021. “It shouldn't be up to the social media platforms or even law enforcement for that matter. It should be up to the human being who is experiencing that behavior."
"During COVID, cybercrime increased by almost 700%, but safety protocols increased by 0%. We opened our inbox one day and there were literally thousands of emails from people who were desperate for our help," Green told PEOPLE. "That's when we knew we had to fast-track the release of a simple tool set that anyone could use."
Seymour is also an adviser with the company.
Katherine Flynn, 42
Katherine Flynn, who also goes by Katie, was born on Jan. 7, 1982, to Seymour and David Flynn. Katie is an actor, director, producer and photographer who has appeared on shows like The Office and in movies like Mistrust (2018), which she worked on with her mother, according to IMDB.
“When they were younger I had to make compromises, sometimes about not taking roles that may have taken me away from them too much,” Seymour told The Guardian in 2013. “They know that I love what I do, and they also know we're all about family, so they are all about family.”
Katie, who has two daughters named Willa and Luna, parents with a similar philosophy. “I became a photographer after I became a parent and most of my early work is of my kids,” she told Shoutout L.A. in 2022. “It was always important to me to let them be exactly who they are and become who they want to be. Hold boundaries and love them to death, but otherwise stay out of their way. I love observing them — everything they feel is on their sleeve and changes moment to moment. Their hearts are truly honest, and every feeling so transient.”
In 2010, Seymour and James Keach established the Open Hearts Foundation, which "accelerates purpose through its grant making and volunteerism programs," according to the organization's website. The family have long shown their support, like when they all attended the Open Hearts 10th Anniversary Gala in 2020. Katie later founded her own branch of the organization.
“Young Hearts, the volunteerism branch of the Open Hearts Foundation that I created with two of my friends, also stemmed out of the same principles: building community, compassion and finding those unique parts of ourselves that we can offer in service,” she told Shoutout L.A. “When we approach this alone, it feels daunting and overwhelming, but when we collectively come together with our unique skills, passions, interests, that’s where the difference is really made.”
Seymour has a close relationship with her grandkids, and she visited the San Diego Zoo with Willa and Luna in August 2023. “All I can say is wow!” she captioned a photo with her two granddaughters. “The @sandiegozoo is absolutely amazing. We were blown away with how beautiful and vast it is.”
In 2022, Seymour visited Disneyland with her family. She posted a photo with her grandkids on Instagram with the caption, “The happiest Oma at the happiest place on Earth!”
She told PEOPLE in 2020 that she was saving her extensive wardrobe for her grandchildren. "I used to be able to keep all my costumes so I have in my closet everything from the 1700s up to the present day,” she said. “And I've got some amazing selection of clothes from all the movies I've been in. … I have quite a history in my closet."
Sean Michael Flynn, 39
Seymour and David’s son Sean Michael Flynn was born on July 30, 1985.
As a child, he appeared in a few TV and film projects, including one episode of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. In 2007, he wrote and directed the short film Numb. He continues to direct — in 2018, he worked on the music video for Ashley Campbell’s song “A New Year” — and he’s a photographer who has shot magazine covers and had gallery shows across the country, per his website.
Sean also makes clothing items under the label Soul Capturing.
John Stacy Keach, 28
Seymour and James Keach’s twin sons, John Stacy Keach and Kristopher Steven Keach, were born on Nov. 30, 1995. John's middle name is in honor of his dad’s brother, Stacy Keach, and father, Stacy Keach Sr.
In 2009, Seymour opened up to About.com about her difficulty getting pregnant and the in vitro fertilization that led to her twins. The boys were born six weeks early through cesarean section because of Seymour’s pregnancy complications.
“Johnny turned blue twice when we got home because we really wanted to come home soon and that was a big mistake,” she told the outlet at the time. “So then we had to take both of them back to the hospital and I had to stay with them overnight, a couple of nights, monitoring them for sucking, swallowing and breathing.”
The boys were both on heart monitors for several months. “If they even wriggled, the heart monitor would go off and somebody would have to be right on top of them and immediately make sure that they were breathing and that they hadn’t turned blue,” Seymour said. “We literally were on pins and needles for a number of months when they were young.”
John appeared in the 2006 movie Blind Dating with Chris Pine. According to his website, he is a musician and visual artist.
In October 2023, Seymour shared a rare photo on Instagram of herself with John, and his twin brother.
“Quality time with Kris and Johnny!” she wrote in the caption, which was posted alongside a photo of herself with the smiling twins standing on either side of her.
Kristopher Steven Keach, 28
Kristopher Steven Keach and his twin brother have always been exceptionally close. “There is a bond that twins have that is unspoken and quite formidable,” Seymour told About.com in 2009.
When the boys were 6 years old, Seymour published the book Two at a Time: Having Twins in 2002. Seymour and James also published the children’s book series This One ‘N That One inspired by their twins.
Kris, like most of his siblings, has stayed out of the spotlight. After graduating from Malibu High School, Kris earned his bachelor’s degree and M.B.A. from Marymount California University. He played professional baseball in Arizona after college. Since 2023, he has worked as an investment counselor with Cardinal Capital Management.
In December 2021, Kris married his wife, Miso, in a ceremony in Malibu, California. The couple had a second ceremony in July 2022 in Seoul, South Korea. For both, Seymour wore traditional Korean hanboks. In one Instagram post of her and Kris, she captioned the photo, "Kris and I in our traditional Korean hanboks! ?? The detail on these garments is just exceptional."
In an interview with Hello! magazine, the actor recalled the first ceremony in Malibu: "It was so moving to see them exchange their vows, especially with the influence of both their cultures and in the presence of family that had traveled from Korea and London, some for the first time ever."
