Jason Kelce before Chiefs-Saints MNF: 'I know it's been a slow start for Travis'
Jason Kelce addressed his brother and fellow former University of Cincinnati Bearcats standout Travis' early-season struggles on ESPN's "Monday Night Countdown" before the Kansas City Chiefs' Monday night game against the New Orleans Saints.
Host Scott Van Pelt said to Jason, "This is a dude who is enjoying his life away from the game. You guys have a huge podcast. He's in a lot of ads. He's got a very famous girlfriend that's traveling the world. And so there's talk that maybe this guy is enjoying his life and is not focusing on the game. This is a guy who has always enjoyed his life."
"Exactly," Jason replied. "I mean now he's enjoying his life very publicly. Everything he does, and everything really our family does, is very much out in the open. And that's just the nature of the way it is right now. I think that Trav has been very healthy throughout his career. This is a guy who's always found a way to show up in the peak physical shape. And I know optics are that he is all over the place. And that's not just optics, that's reality. But he still keeps in amazing - football has always been the most important thing in Travis' life. He's always lived his life to the fullest. He has enjoyed his offseasons very much. Even before Taylor Swift and everything else that was going on in our lives. And I think that he is always gonna find a way to make football the No. 1 priority in terms of being prepared. There's so many things that rely on this between his relationship with his teammates, Andy Reid and his legacy. So I know it's been a slow start for him. I know that the optics have certainly appeared that way. … Trav is always gonna find a way to show up and show out. And I think it's only a matter of time before he gets back to the Travis Kelce we've seen."
Travis entered Monday night's game with 15 catches for 158 receiving yards, without a touchdown. Kelce had nine catches for 70 yards in the Chiefs' 26-13 win Monday against the Saints.
He had seven receptions for 89 yards in Kansas City's win last week against the Chargers. He had just one catch for five yards in the Chiefs' 26-25 win against Cincinnati on September 15.
