Jason Kelce’s Parenting Strategy May Lead to a ‘Hilarious’ Moment With Taylor Swift: ‘I Think Lying to Your Kids Is Important’
Even the strongest parents can’t always resist their kids’ persistent requests, which is why we have to come up with unique strategies to turn them down. (“Sorry, the playground is closed today!”) For Jason Kelce, his three daughters keep begging him for a pet cat — so he invented a lie that will hold them off. That is, until their uncle Travis Kelce’s girlfriend Taylor Swift has something to do with it. The retired NFL player revealed the situation that might lead to a “hilarious” moment with Swift one day, and we can’t stop laughing.
On his recent New Heights podcast, Jason told Travis how he’s been keeping his daughters Wyatt, 4, Elliotte, 3, and Bennett, 17 months, who he shares with wife Kylie, off his back about a cat. “You know what my latest plan to divert our family from getting a cat is? I just keep telling our girls that cats are poisonous,” he told co-host Travis, per PEOPLE.

“… So that they don’t want cats,” Jason said. “And I don’t have to deal with having a cat and make them terrified.” Hey, we can’t blame him! It gets exhausting just saying, “No, I don’t want a cat” over and over again.
Travis, however, didn’t quite agree. Maybe because he has come to love his Grammy-winning girlfriend’s famous cats Meredith, Benjamin, and Olivia? Either way, he told his brother, “That’s sick.”
“It’s whatever. They’ll find out — I think lying to your kids is important,” Jason quipped.
“Not in this regard,” Travis added with a laugh. “They’re gonna go over a friend’s house and f—ing scream bloody murder because they see a cat.”
“That’s fine. That sounds like that person’s house problem,” Jason answered. And apparently, “that person” in question just might be Swift’s.
After listening to the podcast, someone tweeted in all caps, “JASON KELCE HAS BEEN TELLING HIS KIDS CATS ARE POISONOUS SO THEY DON’T HAVE TO GET ONE?? LMAO GET TREE PAINE ON THE PHONE ??,” referring to Swift’s manager.
Someone replied, “and what is jason’s plan when they meet auntie taytay’s cats?”
Apparently deeply into Swift Twitter, Jason saw the tweet and responded: “It’s gonna be hilarious.” (PEOPLE has a screenshot HERE.) Oh to be a fly on the wall if that happens! I can just picture Taylor petting her cats and the girls running and screaming because they think she’s in danger. It’s risky though — what’s Jason’s plan for when his girls realize he lied to them? Speaking from experience, you’ll want an explanation up your sleeve!
The girls are already fans of the “Fortnight” singer. “I’ve been listening a lot to ‘I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,’” Jason told Entertainment Tonight. He revealed that Elliotte switches one word in the chorus so she doesn’t say a swear word. “I’m a real tough kid, I can handle my stuff!” she sings, according to Jason. “That’s all I hear on a daily basis,” he added with a laugh.
Eventually, Jason’s just going to have to accept his fate: he’s going to be a cat owner, and that’s just the way it is!
