Jason Momoa reveals new 'Aquaman' suit
Jason Momoa is going dark in the next Aquaman film — sartorially, at least.
On Sunday the 42-year-old action star showed off his new look for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which is currently in production ahead of its Dec. 2022 release date. While Momoa made a splash in gold and green for the 2018 DC Comics original, the sequel will see his aquatic action hero also sport a less colorful, more streamlined suit featuring scaly, dark teal material with steel-gray armor-like accents and built-in washboard abs — not that he needs them.
"Second round," Momoa wrote on Instagram, sharing his new costume alongside its splashier predecessor. "New suit. More action."
Director James Wan confirmed that the new "stealth suit" worn by Momoa's Aquaman/Arthur Curry is inspired by the blue suit the superhero wore in the 1980s. The filmmaker described the look as "Atlantean tech based on cephalopod’s camouflaging ability."
The svelte and somber update got praise from fellow action star Dwayne Johnson, whose young daughter is an Aquaman enthusiast.
"Hell yeah looking great," Johnson commented on Momoa's post, while actor Leslie Jordan couldn't resist quipping, "Come save me. It’s raining over here."
Meanwhile, Candyman star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who will play Black Manta in the upcoming film, teased his own look: "I know a suit that might give you a run, player!!"
Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren and Temuera Morrison will reprise their Aquaman roles in the sequel.
