Who is Jeanette Aucoin from When Calls the Heart?
Jeanette Aucoin is a widow who was previously engaged to Lucas back when he lived in New Orleans. In Season 6, Jeanette called Lucas from Cape Fullerton to warn him about Amos Dixon, a loan shark she had trouble with. Lucas set off toward Cape Fullerton on his own, but Nathan intercepted him and advised him to let the Mounties handle it. Jeanette was also referenced in Season 9 while she was working for the U.S. Treasury Department. Lucas teamed up with her to set a trap for Wyman Walden, but Jeanette’s sudden silence during the operation left him to handle things alone.
Lucas’ ex had her first on-screen appearance during Season 11, Episode 4. “She’s been threaded through the story, through various seasons, ever since Lucas’s inception … and this is the first time get to actually see her,” McNally explained of the character in a behind-the-scenes video. “She’s got a bit of checkered past,” Kavan Smith, who plays Lee Coulter, added. “She’s very pretty.” McNally chimed in: “Jeanette comes and I think she causes a stir, which I believe is her intention.”
During the episode, Jeanette informed Lucas that she is in town to bid on the resort he’s planning on building and explained that she represents a group of high-net-worth investors. Lucas was skeptical of her investors, but she insisted that they were legitimate. The governor agreed to accept her bid, but only after the investors passed a background check. Lucas also asked why she was really in Hope Valley, and Jeanette told him that she still cares about him.

Jeanette showed up again in Season 11, Episode 10, and in a shocking twist, Lucas remembered that his former fiancée was there when he got shot. As it turns out, Jeanette had been coerced by a dangerous criminal named Casimir Shaw to make a deal with Lucas that would allow Shaw to run rum through the territory and use the resort for money laundering activities. On the night of Lucas’ shooting, Shaw showed up with Jeanette and pointed a gun at her. The governor grabbed the gun and got shot in the process.
In a promo for the penultimate episode, which airs on June 16, Shaw shows up in Hope Valley and seemingly holds both Rosemary Coulter (Pascale Hutton) and Elizabeth hostage. Jeanette is also featured warning Lucas to do what Shaw asks. “If you don’t cooperate with him, he’ll destroy this town you care so much about,” she says. Its unclear what will unfold in the final two episodes of the season, but viewers will just have to tune in to find out.
When Calls the Heart airs on Sundays at 9 p.m. on the Hallmark Channel and streams on Peacock.
