Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez hold hands during red carpet debut in India
It's been one year since Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez's affair captured headlines and the couple is still going strong. The Amazon founder, 56, and former television host, 50, attended an Amazon Prime Video event together in Mumbai, India. Bezos made a splash with a patterned suit jacket while Sanchez wore a plunging red and black gown. They held hands and smiled for photographers during the rare public outing.
It's already been an eventful trip to India for the entrepreneur.
When Bezos touched down earlier this week he was welcomed by the government with a new antitrust case. On Wednesday, Bezos announced Amazon would invest $1 billion over the next five years to bring more than 10 million small and medium Indian businesses online.
"We’re going to use our global footprint to export outside of India," Bezos shared during a chat with Amazon's India head. However, his appearance was met with protests from small business owners minutes from the event. According to Buzzfeed News, retailers held up placards with Bezos's face on them and shouted, "Amazon go back!" So, it's safe to say a date night with his girlfriend was likely welcomed by Bezos.
Sanchez and the Amazon CEO have been spotted on numerous outings around the world, from Broadway shows in New York City to a recent getaway in St. Barth. They've also attended high-profile events together like Wimbledon. But Thursday's bash marked their red carpet — technically, blue carpet — debut as a couple.
In January 2019, Jeff and MacKenzie Bezos announced they were separating after 25 years of marriage. Hours later, news of his relationship with Sanchez leaked to the press. Sanchez, who pilots helicopters, was married to Hollywood power agent Patrick Whitesell. She filed for divorce in April 2019 and stepped out publicly with Bezos for the first time in May.
"They’re very happy," a source recently told People.
