Jelly Roll to make SNL debut, opening 50th season with host Jean Smart. 'God is good,' Nashville star says

Jelly Roll has been announced as the "Saturday Night Live" musical guest on Sept. 28, the premiere of the show's 50th season.

This is the first time the "Save Me" and "I Am Not Okay" singer will hit the stage on the sketch comedy show, standing alongside the evening's host, Jean Smart of TV show "Hacks."

Jelly Roll took to Instagram on Wednesday afternoon to announce the news.

"The premiere of the 50th season of SNL. BRB going to cry for a few hours and call every family member I have," he said. "Bringing therapeutic music to my favorite show ever. God is Good."

Jelly Roll, born Jason DeFord, is a Grammy-nominated country singer currently on tour in anticipation of his upcoming album "Beautifully Broken," which will come out on Oct. 11.

Nashville stand up comedian Nate Bartgatze also appearing on SNL

The first five episodes of the "SNL" new season will have even more Nashville representation.

Music City's own Nate Bargatze will return to "SNL" for his second appearance on the show on Oct. 5, alongside musical guest Coldplay.

On Oct. 12, Ariana Grande and Stevie Nicks will perform. Michael Keaton will host and Billie Eilish will be the musical guest the next week on Oct. 19. And on Nov. 2, comedian John Mulaney will share the stage with musical guest Chappell Roan.

"SNL" broadcasts on Saturday nights at 10:30 p.m. CDT on NBC and streams live on Peacock.
