Jenna Bush Hager Details Interaction With Donna Kelce on Set of New Hallmark Film
Jenna Bush Hager is embracing the giving spirit well before the holiday season as she shares insight into her experience working with Donna Kelce on an upcoming Hallmark Christmas movie.
Parade spoke with the Today co-host about her recent campaign with Kleenex, the household tissue brand, which celebrates its 100th anniversary by gifting educators and students the supplies they need to get through the year. During the conversation, we asked her about her joint project with football's favorite mama and what her two Swiftie daughters thought about her working with Travis Kelce's mom–and her response was so touching that we were practically reaching for the tissues.
Describing Mama Kelce as "the loveliest," Bush Hager fondly remembered one "so cute" moment she shared with her co-star on the set of Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story–and no, it has nothing to do with the note she left for the tight end (which we're told he has yet to respond to).
"She was like, ‘Don’t worry, I messed up a million lines, you’re gonna mess up your lines and they’ll just move forward," Bush Hager recalled. "Which is true, and I was nervous about it because I didn’t want to hold anybody up!"
“One of the things you don’t see as you’re watching Hallmark movies is that it’s 115 degrees, they film most of the Hallmark movies in the summer, outdoors. So these actors have to be in coats and hats and pretending that it’s Christmas when it’s summertime. It’s really hard,” she added.
When asked how Mila and Poppy felt about her new acting credits, the 42-year-old said she could not break the news in person, so she could only imagine how they initially reacted.
"The girls were actually away at camp, so I wrote them," she shared. "They couldn’t, they obviously had no [access to] technology which was amazing, so they couldn’t e-mail me but they could write letters. So I wrote them, ‘By the way, I’m in a Hallmark movie. I’m actually in Kansas City shooting it right now. Travis Kelce’s mom is in it!’ And then, you know, five days later, when I received [their] letter in the mail, they were like, ‘Wait, what?!’
"They think I’m hilarious, like whatever is happening is wild. So yeah, they were not prepared–and I’m still not prepared," Bush Hager joked. "We’re gonna have to do a watch party."
Her partnership with Kleenex is just as heartwarming. Up for grabs is one $100,000 donation awarded to one well-deserving school and another $400,000 distributed among 100 others nominated by their communities.
To nominate a school, visit kleenex100years.com now through Monday, Aug. 26, and complete a two-part written prompt explaining why you think it deserves the donations. According to the brand, "Schools will be evaluated based on an objective set of criteria, and the selected schools will be those who exemplify Kleenex’s mission of providing students with resources to face everyday moments of vulnerability and thrive."
