Jenna Dewan & Channing Tatum's 'Magic Mike' Legal Battle Is Preventing Them From 'Moving On'
Even though Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum were declared legally single by a judge in November 2019, there is one major detail of their financial settlement that has not been resolved. The former duo’s six-year battle over the Magic Mike franchise is preventing both of them from putting their almost nine-year marriage behind them.
A Tatum pal shared their thoughts on the situation with People and they put the blame squarely on Dewan’s “actions and claims [which] continuously contradict themselves.” They added, “She says she wants a fair settlement but is ignoring all post-separation work Channing and his partners have done to enhance Magic Mike. She keeps stalling negotiations, but says she wants to resolve this.” A Dewan insider told the outlet that isn’t what is happening here, she just wants to clarify the business transactions that occurred with the Magic Mike franchise.

“She’d like for all the doors to close and for her divorce to be finalized,” the friend defended her. “She’s not dragging this on because she wants to or because she’s greedy.” Even though she can marry fiancé Steve Kazee, Dewan likely wants all of the Tatum divorce details settled before another walk down the aisle later this year. She’s also expecting her second child with Kazee, so it’s been a long process for the exes. Tatum seems frustrated as well because he would like to “move on” with fiancée Zo? Kravitz as well.
The financial rift stems from the profits of the successful franchise which includes the movies, a reality TV show, and a Las Vegas nightclub attraction. These projects were all “developed and co-financed by Channing during marriage with community effort and marital funds,” per the court documents obtained by People. Dewan is asking for “an equal division of the Magic Mike intellectual property,” but Tatum’s legal team is fighting that.
The former couple tried to settle the case through mediation, but Tatum has “exhausted all efforts” and that is why the legal battle is moving forward. It will be the final chapter for Tatum and Dewan, who met on the set of the film, Step Up, in 2006. They didn’t get their fairy-tale ending together, but hopefully, they can find an amicable resolution for the sake of their 10-year-old daughter, Everly.
