Jenna Fischer Reveals Why 'Office' Co-Star Angela Kinsey Is Her Ride-or-Die BFF for Life
Generate Key Takeaways

For Jenna Fischer, going through breast cancer was a private medical issue that she didn’t want the world to know about until she was ready. That’s where her best friend and Office co-star, Angela Kinsey, helped save the day. The women’s strong bond goes beyond Pam Beesly and Angela Martin from Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Fischer shared why her bestie means so much to her, especially at a time when she felt the most vulnerable. Kinsey made a promise to keep her diagnosis secret for as long as her friend needed her to. “From the beginning, she said, ‘Whatever you need. You tell me, I’m here.’ And I said, ‘I want to keep working, and I don’t want anyone to know at work. At work, I want that to be a space where we go, and we laugh and I’m not a cancer patient. I need that.’ And she said, ‘Okay,’” Fischer said in an emotional interview on Today on Monday, Oct. 21.

The women have hosted the re-watch podcast called, Office Ladies, since 2019 where they reminisce about their time on the beloved NBC sitcom. When Fischer began suffering from hair loss due to her chemotherapy treatments, Kinsey stepped up in a big way. “And when I started to lose my hair, I would wear my hats with my hair coming out. We called them ‘wig hats,’” Fischer revealed. “And she started wearing hats to work so that I wouldn’t be the only person in a work meeting wearing a hat.”

As Hoda Kotb noted Kinsey’s act of “love,” Fischer did her best to hold back her tears. She responded, “Yeah — and it was amazing.” The BFF love goes both ways as Kinsey wrote a sweet tribute to her friend on Instagram on Oct. 9, the day she revealed her diagnosis to the world.

“If you are lucky in life, you get a friend that feels like home to you, and no matter what comes your way, you feel safe, you feel loved, you feel like everything will be okay. Jenna is that person to me. I am thankful every day to have her in my life and this past year only reminded me more of how fortunate we are to have this friendship,” wrote Kinsey. She praised the 50-year-old actress for her “courage and grace,” and celebrated her current “cancer-free” status. Kinsey added, “Jenna, I love you so much. Always here for you. Side by side.”

Fischer wrote a loving message back in the comments, “I am so lucky to have a friend like you Lady. You’ve taught me so much about friendship and care these many years. I love ya!” The women have each other’s back through every life milestone — it’s a beautiful friendship that would even have Michael Scott tearing up over.
