Jenna Ortega, 21, Finally Responds to Johnny Depp, 61, Dating Rumors With Bold Message
Last year, rumors swirled about Wednesday actress Jenna Ortega, 21, and Pirates of the Caribbean actor Johnny Depp, 61, being in a romantic relationship. Now, Ortega is sharing her blunt response to the gossip as she shuts down the possibility.
As she promotes her upcoming movie Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Ortega sat down with Buzzfeed for a fun video interview, and during the conversation, she was asked, "What's the craziest rumor you've heard about yourself?"
Ortega answered, "Probably that I was in a serious relationship with Johnny Depp and I wanted everybody to leave us alone."
"It's so insane to me. Like I never spoke on that, I never said anything like that. Articles really do make up their own quotes," she went on. "But I thought that that was pretty hilarious."
She then told the story of a day on set with actor Richard E. Grant, likely for their upcoming film Death of a Unicorn, and said, "He came up to me and he just said, 'Oh, so you and Johnny?' and I laughed because I don't know that person."
Last fall, when the rumors first started, Ortega briefly responded by sharing a statement on her Instagram Stories, writing something similar to what she said in the video interview, saying, "This is so ridiculous I can’t even laugh. I have never met or worked with Johnny Depp in my life. Please stop spreading lies and leave us alone."
A representative for Depp said something similar at the time, releasing a statement that noted that the two actors had never met and said, "He is appalled by these baseless and malicious rumors that are intended to harm his reputation and career."
Ortega will appear in the highly anticipated sequel to Beetlejuice when it hits theaters on Sept. 6, while fans eagerly await the second season of her hit series Wednesday.
