Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux reunite as their dog Dolly dies: 'She was surrounded by her entire family'
Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux, who ended their marriage in 2018, reunited over the weekend to say goodbye to their dog, Dolly.
Theroux shared the beautiful yet heartbreaking photos of them back together as a “family” to help usher their white shepherd over the rainbow bridge after a “heroic struggle.” The rescue dog, who he called their most “loyal family member and protector,” was on a soft blanket covered in flower petals as incense was burned.
“She was surrounded by her entire family,” Theroux noted in the post, which included what appeared to be a photo of the exes clutching hands over Dolly.
Another photo showed them wrapping Dolly in a blanket.
The post, which also showed their terrier Clyde saying goodbye to Dolly, included a quote from George Vest: “The one that never deserts, the one that never proves ungrateful... is the dog — faithful and true, even in death.” The tribute ended with Theroux’s frequent message asking people to “adopt not shop.”
Their famous friends — including Courteney Cox, Orlando Bloom and Olivia Munn — have been posting condolences. Aniston’s former Friends co-star Cox wrote, “We love you dolly,” with some broken heart emojis.
Fans have also been posting messages, including: “Oh man this is the saddest/most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. Sorry for your loss.”
Aniston and Theroux were married for two years before splitting in early 2018. The animal lovers reportedly agreed to share custody of their dogs.
Aniston remained in L.A. with Dolly, Clyde and a pit-bull mix, Sophie. Theroux returned to NYC and rescued a pit bull in 2018 named Kuma. (Kuma is Theroux’s “partner” at his new bar.)
Their dogs were a huge part of their relationship. In an interview with GQ before their split, Aniston said the pair kept the ashes of their former dogs — including her longtime sidekick, Norman — on their mantel.
“We actually have three dead dogs on our mantel right now, she said. The whole mantel is dead dogs. Their ashes. It’s kind of morbid.”
And the pair decided to marry at their home in 2015 — instead of eloping — so Dolly and Sophie could take part in the celebration.
