Jennifer Aniston's Friendship With Reese Witherspoon May Have Hit a Bump Over New Romance
Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon’s friendship goes back to the sixth season of Friends when the then-23-year-old actress guest-starred as Rachel’s younger sister, Jill. Their work on The Morning Show as stars and producers has only brought them closer over the last few years, but there may be a new situation tearing them apart.
Witherspoon, who divorced husband Jim Toth in 2023, has reportedly been putting her romance with Oliver Haarman ahead of her bestie and it’s causing some friction in their friendship, according to Life & Style. Aniston feels a bit slighted after helping the Oscar winner through her divorce last year. “When Reese got divorced, she was really lonely and Jen went out of her way to include her in her life,” an insider claimed. “She was totally there for her and felt they’d become true friends.” Even when Witherspoon isn’t with the German businessman, “she still doesn’t have any interest in hanging out.”

Aniston welcomed Witherspoon into her A-list friend group which includes Courteney Cox and Sandra Bullock, so they could have fun girls’ nights out. “Now that Reese isn’t single, she’s acting like she no longer has any use for Jen, it’s very hurtful and has her nose out of joint,” the source added. Aniston even presented Witherspoon with the 2015 American Cinematheque Award and gushed about their friendship.
“Even before Reese played my lovely, albeit somewhat spoiled, sister Jill, she somehow felt like family to me,” Aniston said in her speech, via InStyle. “Reese’s amazing talent, both professionally and personally, has long made her a very strong and welcome presence in my life—and I’m sure in many people’s lives in this room.” And just last December their joint interview for Variety showed off their sisterhood.
“We’ve been in each other’s lives for 20-something years,” Aniston said. “It’s just in our DNA that we are collaborators. We’re partners. We’re friends. We’re girlfriends. We share all sorts of heartbreaks in life and love and everything.”
Witherspoon added, “There’s a comfort to that. It’s just mutual respect and years of experience. And I think we’re both incredulous that we’re both still kicking around!” So, hopefully, this is just a bump in the road for the two talented women — Witherspoon might be in that honeymoon stage with Haarman and Aniston is feeling a little left behind.
