Are Jennifer Hudson, Common confirming their relationship? Rapper talks dating EGOT winner
It looks like Common and Jennifer Hudson are ready to confirm their romance.
On Monday, the Grammy award-winning rapper appeared as a guest on "The Jennifer Hudson Show," where he discussed his love life. Rumors have swirled for months that the rapper and actor, 51, is dating the EGOT winner, 42.
In the episode, Hudson playfully pressed Common, who arrived with flowers for her and said he loves "being in your presence," to talk about his dating life.
"Let's get down to business, Mr. Common," Hudson said. "I'm a host, and so I have to ask you this question because everybody always wants to know this. Are you dating anyone?"
The crowd cheered as the Academy Award-winning actor laughed nervously. "So, yes," he said. "And I'm in a relationship that is (with) one of the most beautiful people I've ever met in life."
Common then continued to make it clear he's talking about Hudson: "She's smart. She loves God. She has something real down to earth about her. She's talented. But I set my standard kind of high because she had to have an EGOT. She had to win an Oscar on her first movie. I set my standard high. She had to get her own talk show."
"Oh, OK," Hudson playfully laughed.
Common then asked Hudson about her own love life, and she confirmed she's "dating as well" and is "very happy." The rapper told her he feels similarly and that "this relationship is a happy place for me," adding, "Seeing her happy actually makes me really happy." The two also discussed attending an Usher concert together. "It was so fun," she said. "I enjoyed that night."
Common discussed the interview on the "Today" show earlier on Monday, saying he and Hudson "had a little fun."
"I felt like, man, why not just be loving and honest with who I am and who we are?" he said. "It felt good."
Common stressed that he is "very private" about his relationships, which are "not for public consumption." But "at the end of the day," he added, "we were on her show. We had a good time." He also said he has realized he is the "marrying type" and is open to tying the knot "at some point in my life."
The presumed couple have been tight-lipped about their relationship, though Common spoke highly of the talk show host when asked on the "Today" show in June.
"She's a Chicagoan, this amazing human being — I've always been inspired by her," he gushed. "She's one of the most beautiful people I ever met on the planet. Incredible heart, and she's just dope, man."
While many fans were supportive of the rumored romance, others were skeptical of the relationship, pointing to the rapper's dating history as evidence of his "commitment issues," as one commenter put it.
"So wack! I'm sure he has dated other women who were just as talented and said the same thing," another user wrote. "I lost hope in him. I don't like men who waste women's time."
Common has been linked with comedian and actress Tiffany Haddish, "The Color Purple" star Taraji P. Henson and sports legend Serena Williams.
Haddish, for her part, said her 2021 breakup with Common "wasn't mutual."

The comedic actress was responding to a "Hollywood Unlocked with Jason Lee Uncensored" interview Common did that year, in which he called the breakup mutual and said Haddish is "one of the best people I've met in life."
"It was more him saying, 'I think this relationship has run its course,'" she told The Washington Post last year. "And I was like, 'Okay. Like you gonna be a 50-year-old single man. Okay?'"
She added that her time with Common was "the healthiest, the funnest relationship I've ever had."
