Jennifer Hudson kicked off the 2020 NBA All-Star Game overcome with emotion as she performed in honor of Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna and the seven other victims who died in a California helicopter crash last month.

The powerful vocalist, dressed in purple and introduced by Magic Johnson — who led the crowd in cheers and eight seconds of silence before Hudson took the floor — delivered a poignant take on the ballad “For All We Know” Sunday night (Feb. 16) in Chicago.

A montage of photos of Bryant served as a backdrop for the performance.

“For all we know/ This may only be a dream/ We come and we go/ Like a river or a stream/ So love me tonight/ Tomorrow was made for some/ Tomorrow may never come/ For all we know,” Hudson sang.

The event aired live on TNT, beginning at 8 p.m. ET.

Earlier in the week, it was announced Chance the Rapper will be joined by DJ KhaledQuavo and Lil Wayne for the All-Star Game halftime show later in the evening.
