Jennifer Hudson's backup singer steps into the spotlight on 'The Voice'
Kyla Jade had her coming-out party on The Voice on Monday night as the former backup singer for Jennifer Hudson decided to sing “One Night Only” from Dreamgirls. Even though Kyla has sung background vocals for the song many times before, she was still feeling nervous. But Kyla didn’t have anything to be nervous about, especially after getting some words of encouragement from JHud herself. During a phone call, Hudson told Kyla: “Live in it. And know that this is your dream. Team JHud is gonna be cheering you on.” And that little chat must have calmed her nerves, because Kyla went out and slayed that song.
All the coaches loved the performance, and Kyla’s coach, Blake Shelton, had a sweet message for her: “JHud was just texting me about 10 minutes ago, she was so excited to watch this. And let me say, on behalf of her and myself: Welcome to the front of the stage.”
The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC. Watch clips and full episodes of The Voice for free on Yahoo View.
