Jennifer Lopez Files To Divorce Ben Affleck After 2 Years Of Marriage
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s long love story has taken another drastic turn. After two years of marriage, the actress has filed for divorce from the actor, with the papers being filed on their wedding anniversary.
According to court documents obtained by USA TODAY, Lopez filed for divorce on Tuesday (Aug. 20). The couple wed in Georgia on that day in 2022, but TMZ and Variety report their date of separation as April 26, 2024.
The Lopez and Affleck lore began two decades ago when they first dated in 2002 after hitting it off on the set of Gigli. They also got engaged in November of that year, but called off the wedding months later before announcing their official breakup in 2004. They got back together in 2021 and got engaged in 2022. This marked Jlo’s fourth marriage and the Gone Girl actor’s second.
The second time around, the Monster In Law star said they were attempting to be more private about their romance. “I think what we learned from the last time is that love, when you are lucky enough to find it, is so sacred and special and you have to hold a little bit of that privately and that’s what we’ve learned,” Lopez said during an appearance on Today. “But we’re very happy, if that’s what you wondering about.”
However, that didn’t stop the media from reporting on breakup rumors earlier this year. The speculation about the split heightened when Lopez was seen at the Met Gala in May without her man, and she seemed to not be in attendance at “The Greatest Roast of All Time: The Roast of Tom Brady” in Los Angeles, which Affleck was participating in.
Affleck was also notably absent from her Bridgerton-themed birthday party in July. Lopez shared an emotional caption following her special day, writing, “It’s hard to believe we have spent all this time together. It’s funny as I sit here contemplating on the most extraordinary journey I still feel like the same girl starting out so full of energy and bravado, so ready to take on the whole world on the outside and yet so tender, fragile and sometimes frightened but always full of love on the inside.”
