Jennifer Lopez Officially Files for Divorce From Ben Affleck After Just 2 Years of Marriage
After months of rumors that Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's relationship had ended, Lopez has officially filed for divorce.
On Tuesday, Aug. 20, the "Let's Get Loud" singer filed divorce documents at Los Angeles County Superior Court, per TMZ. She reportedly filed alone without an attorney, listing the date of separation as April 26, 2024.
Lopez reportedly did not indicate whether she and Affleck had a prenuptial agreement. However, sources reportedly told TMZ they did not have a prenup in place.
The timing of Lopez's divorce filing is worth noting. Exactly two years before—on Aug. 20, 2022—they held their star-studded (second) wedding ceremony in Georgia. Lopez and Affleck legally married in Las Vegas in 2022.
Previously, the couple was engaged in the early 2000s, although they broke up before walking down the aisle, with both marrying other people. After rekindling their romance in 2021, Lopez and Affleck legally married in Las Vegas in 2022. They were often spotted spending time with each other's children, with Lopez and Affleck's ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, appearing to get along.

In Lopez's documentary, The Greatest Love Story Never Told, Affleck commented on how the two managed their differences as a couple, saying that he and his wife were “two people with different kinds of approaches trying to learn to compromise.”
Rumors about issues in the relationship started in 2024. In May, Lopez was reportedly spotted house-hunting in Los Angeles, around a year after they bought a massive mansion in Beverly Hills for almost $61 million, as reported by TMZ. Not long afterward, Affleck and Lopez publicly listed the property for $68 million.
Additionally, Affleck was seen later that month without his wedding ring following reports that he and Jen were reportedly living separately, per People. The couple shared no response to the breakup rumors, with a few sightings together afterward.
As of writing, neither Affleck nor Lopez have released a statement about the divorce filing.
