Jennifer Lopez Proved That This Ben Affleck Divorce Rumor Was Completely Untrue
Over the summer, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s divorce took over the headlines and there was a rumor that one particular A-list friend seemed to be happy that their relationship was over. The reports were that Matt Damon didn’t love his Boston BFF’s marriage to Jenny from the block. Well, Lopez and Damon officially squashed those rumors at the Toronto International Film Festival and proved that the gossip was just not true.
The duo was spotted in a “deep conversation” at the Unstoppable premiere party and that pairing had everyone talking, according to People. The conversation wasn’t a brief one either — it lasted over 20 minutes with moments of seriousness as well as lightheartedness. “Jen and Matt began talking and had a long, deep conversation” at a table with co-star Don Cheadle and Damon’s wife, Luciana Barroso. Affleck did not attend the film festival, which was likely to avoid any awkward interactions in front of the media.

The warm interaction defies the gossip that Damon wasn’t a fan of Lopez. “Matt’s had serious reservations about Bennifer 2.0 since the beginning. He’s tried to be publicly supportive for Ben’s sake, but the fact is he hates the way J.Lo treats his buddy and can no longer hold his tongue,” a source told OK! Magazine in December 2023. Damon was noticeably absent from the Lopez-Affleck Georgia wedding in 2022, which many fans took as a sign that he disapproved of the relationship.
“Matt tried to warn Ben when he got back together with J.Lo that this could happen,” an insider explained to the Daily Mail. “Matt was there to help Ben get it together after their first split and he felt like this would happen again.” However, things seemed pretty smooth in Toronto over the weekend where the People source even noted that Damon and Lopez clasped hands at one point — there’s a lot of love still there.
Damon will likely pick up the promotional duties when Unstoppable has its limited theatrical release in December since it’s his and Affleck’s production company, Artists Equity, that is producing the biographical sports film about NCAA wrestler Anthony Robles. J.Lo plays Robles’ mother, Judy, in the inspirational movie that was well-received by audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival.
