How Jennifer Lopez is reportedly feeling ahead of ‘Unstoppable’ premiere without Ben Affleck
Jennifer Lopez isn’t letting her divorce from Ben Affleck get in the way of promoting the movie she made with her estranged husband.
Lopez, 55, is reportedly “excited” to go to the Toronto International Film Festival this week to attend the premiere of “Unstoppable,” a sports drama she and Affleck co-produced, in which she plays a supporting role.
Affleck, 52, will not be in attendance, but his best friend and producing partner Matt Damon will.
“Jennifer is excited to head to the Toronto Film Festival to promote this film because ‘Unstoppable’ means a lot to her, she wants to support it,” a source told Daily Mail.
“It is a true life story that is very inspirational and she is proud to be a part of it. Acting in the movie was a high point for her,” the insider added.
“Unstoppable” tells the true story of wrestler Anthony Robles, who was born with one leg and defied expectations to win a national championship in college wrestling back in 2011. Lopez plays Robles’ mother.
The film, adapted from Robles’ autobiography of the same name, stars Jharrel Jerome (“Moonlight”) as Robles and features a star-studded supporting cast, including Bobby Cannavale, Don Cheadle and Michael Pe?a.
“The movie has been getting a lot of attention and Jennifer wants it to do the best it can. She is very professional and always works hard to give her movies their best opportunities,” the source also said.
J.Lo will have her supporters by her side at the premiere. “She will have several friends with her and of course her glam squad,” the source revealed.
But she doesn’t plan on hanging around in Toronto afterward. “[I]t will be a quick trip,” the insider said. “She won’t be in Toronto for very long as she has other matters to attend to.”
Some of those “other matters” may be connected to the dissolution of her marriage to Affleck.
Lopez filed for divorce on August 20, the anniversary of her and the “Argo” director’s second wedding ceremony.
Some of the other producers on “Unstoppable” were reportedly “pushing [Lopez and Affleck] to appear together at the premiere in Toronto to create buzz on the film,” according to a Daily Mail source.
However, their bid was unsuccessful.
In March 2023, Affleck spoke about the “joy” of working with Lopez on “Unstoppable” in an interview with CBS Sunday Mornings.
“What fun, what a joy to do something with her, see her be great, go to work with your wife, go to work with your best friend,” the Oscar winner said.
“If you don’t like who you’re working with, and if you have difficulty or trouble at work, I think it’s one of the things that can really cause depression, anxiety and pain for people,” he continued.
“And conversely, [if] you love the people at work, you probably have a pretty good life, you know?”
He also said, “Can’t make it look like she’s doing it as a favor to me, but actually she is.”
