Jennifer Lopez has broken her silence regarding Ayo Edebiri calling her music career “a scam.”

During an interview with Variety, J.Lo revealed that Edebiri apologized for her comments. The old podcast clip resurfaced hours before the two entertainers were set to feature on an episode of Saturday Night Live in early February. Lopez says that Ayo “was mortified” after the clip emerged. The singer then explained that the Boston native began crying amid her apology.

“She was mortified and very sweet,” Lopez recalled. “She came to my dressing room and apologized with tears in her eyes, saying how terrible it was that she had said those things. She felt really badly and loved my performance because we had just done my soundcheck and she actually got to hear me perform. She was just like, ‘I’m so f**king sorry, it was so awful of me.'”

Jenny From the Block also insisted that she has heard “similar” criticisms regarding her singing career. However, because she has heard them so much, Ayo’s words didn’t bother her. “It’s funny. I’ve heard similar things said about me throughout my career, so it really didn’t affect me,” J.Lo added.

Edebiri’s criticism of Lopez stems from an old clip of The Scam Goddess Podcast. In the 2020 episode, The Bear actress slammed Lopez’s much-talked-about singing ability, calling her career “a scam.”

“Her whole career is one long scam,” Edebiri asserted in the audio. “She thinks, like, she’s still good, even though she’s not singing for most of these songs.”

The Emmy award-winning entertainer also addressed her comments in an SNL sketch called, Why’d Ya Say It? Kenan Thompson asked Ayo’s character about her social media comments, to which she nervously began to answer for her shade.

“OK, OK, we get it,” she said. “It’s wrong to leave mean comments, or post comments just for clout, or run your mouth on a podcast and you don’t consider the impact because you’re 24 and stupid. From now on we’re going to be a lot more thoughtful about what we post online.”
