Countdown begins with a suspicious murder in broad daylight, leading Los Angeles Police Department officer Mark Meachum (Ackles) to be recruited to a secret task force of undercover agents from all branches of law enforcement that will investigate the death. “But as the truth of a more sinister plot comes into focus,” the logline reads, “the team must overcome their conflicting personal agendas to unite and save a city of millions.”
The series hails from #OneChicago franchise veteran and FBI: International co-creator Derek Haas, who will serve as executive producer and showrunner as part of an overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios.
“I had an incredible experience working with the Prime Video team on The Boys and am delighted to be able to continue that relationship on Countdown,” Ackles said in a statement. “I simply cannot wait to partner with Derek and the rest of our Countdown family to bring this story to life.”
Though Ackles is best known to TV fans for his 15-season run as Supernatural‘s Dean Winchester, his small-screen résumé has filled up since the CW series ended. Recently, he’s appeared as Season 3 antagonist Soldier Boy on Prime Video’s The Boys, sheriff Beau Arlen on ABC’s Big Sky and, earlier this year, the estranged brother of Justin Hartley’s Colter on CBS’ Tracker. He also returned to the Supernatural-verse in 2022 by way of prequel series The Winchesters, which he narrated as Dean.
