'Jeopardy!' host Alex Trebek offers update on cancer treatment: 'My numbers are good'
Alex Trebek was back, at least for a moment, on Thursday with some good news about his health.
“I’m doing well,” the Jeopardy! host — who sported a mustache and beard — said on the show’s official social media accounts. “I’ve been continuing my treatment. And it is paying off, though it does fatigue me a great deal. My numbers are good. I’m feeling great.”
Trebek, who turns 80 on July 22, revealed in March 2019 that he’d been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Until the coronavirus pandemic shut down production on the popular game show in the spring, he had managed to continue the job he’s held since 1984.
Trebek promised to get back behind the podium once productions resumes.
“Once again, I can’t wait to return to the studio and start recording shows for the new season in September,” he said.
The TV staple last gave his fans an update in March, as he marked one-year since diagnosis. He said he was “very happy,” but even then noted the challenge of going trough chemo.
“There were some good days, but a lot of not-so-good days,” Trebek said. “I joked with friends that the cancer won’t kill me, the chemo treatments will.”
In his latest, Trebek said that he’s been feeling well enough while Jeopardy! is on hold that he’s written a book. His memoir, The Answer Is…: Reflections on My Life, is out July 21.
Jeopardy! audiences will get a chance to see Trebek throughout the years — mustache and clean-shaven — soon. As Trebek also mentioned Thursday, vintage episodes, including the first he ever hosted, will air later this month.
