'Jeopardy!' fans give the show some lip after contestant shows off his tongue
Some viewers were not amused to see a contestant unfurl his lengthy licker.
A Jeopardy! contestant’s odd talent turned plenty of heads on Tuesday and left many viewers feeling put off by the moment.
During the meet-the-contestants portion of the show, host Ken Jennings introduced Julie Sisson from Everett, Wash., who carries around a Scrabble piece with her grandmother’s initial, L, as a good luck charm. Then the host turned his attention to Andrew Knowles, a psychologist resident from Portland, Ore., who, according to Jennings’s note card, has a really long tongue.
“Yeah, so I figured out at a young age I have a long tongue, and the whole nose-to-tongue thing was easy,” Knowles said, referring to those who have the ability to touch their sniffer with their taster. “And then one day I heard that, you know, touching your elbow, or licking your elbow basically, is impossible. And I tried it, and I was able to do it.”
Then, in a move that seemed to frustrate some viewers, Jennings dared Knowles to “prove it.” And after a quick attempt to get the crowd into it, Knowles completed the feat with a lick of his sweater-covered elbow.
The move garnered a round of applause from the crowd and other contestants, along with an excited reaction from Jennings who said, “Wow, look at that. I can do the nose thing, but I didn’t know there was a whole Olympic level that I knew nothing of.”
And while the moment was met with applause and astonishment in-studio, there were plenty of reactions to the moment on social media as well, with most people feeling like it didn’t really fit in with the overall vibe of the show.
What the hell is happening on Jeopardy? One of the contestants just stuck out his tongue and licked his elbow during the dumb “let’s talk to the contestants” schtick. Alex Trebek is rolling over in his grave right now!

#Jeopardy has fallen to freak show status with dude talking about tongue and then showing him sticking it out to touch his bent elbow. Ken Jennings asked him to prove it. Gross

No tongues on jeopardy seems tasteless

Other’s blamed Jennings for bringing it up in the first place, and for taking it a step further.
Licking elbows and bragging about tongue length.@KenJennings is trying to see how how low @Jeopardy can go.

And even though Knowles did pick up a fan or two along the way for his efforts…
I want the tongue guy to win! #Jeopardy

…in the end it was contestant Sisson and her Scrabble good luck charm that pulled out the victory. And somewhere, Mick Jagger and Gene Simmons were feeling relieved.
