Late 'Jeopardy!' host Alex Trebek's wife Jean says outpouring of support has 'truly touched our hearts'
Jeopardy! fans have sent love to host Alex Trebek’s family since he died Nov. 8 from pancreatic cancer. On Wednesday, Jean Trebek, his wife since 1990 with whom he shared two children, took a moment to acknowledge their support.
“My family and I sincerely thank you all for your compassionate messages and generosity,” she shared on Instagram. “Your expressions have truly touched our hearts. Thank you so very, very much.”

The host’s death was met with an outpouring of condolences from his loyal fans, including longtime viewers, celebrities and former contestants. The 80-year-old had presided over the quiz show for 36 years, since the revamped version of it debuted across the country in September 1984.
Former contestant James Holzhauer, who holds the record for the Jeopardy! player who won the most money in a single game, recounted appearing alongside Trebek earlier this year to promote the show’s “Greatest of All Time Tournament,” in which Holzhauer faced off with Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter. While the players were on hand to answer questions, everyone knew that Trebek was the one they really wanted. That was the last day Holzhauer spent with the TV star.
Trebek revealed his diagnosis in March 2019 and gave regular updates, including one in July. He said then that he was “feeling great,” except for the fatigue caused by his chemotherapy treatment, and looked forward to returning to Jeopardy! once the coronavirus pandemic allowed.
The show went back into production that same month after a four-month hiatus, with Trebek once again at the helm. He filmed through Oct. 29, and that last show will air Dec. 25.
