Jeremy Allen White Wins Best Actor in a Comedy Series for Second Year in a Row: “My Heart Is Just Beating Right Out of Its Chest”
Jeremy Allen White took home the award for best actor in a comedy series for his role in The Bear for the second year in a row at the 2024 Emmys.
“Thank you so much,” the two-time Emmy winner began his speech. “My heart is just beating right out of its chest. Thank you. Thank you to the Academy, my fellow nominees. I’m so honored to be in your company.”

The actor was up against What We Do in the Shadows’ Matt Berry, Curb Your Enthusiasm‘s Larry David, Only Murders in the Building‘s Steve Martin and Martin Short and Reservation Dogs‘ D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai.
White thanked The Bear creator Christopher Storer for choosing him to lead the hit FX show, adding that he is so grateful and lucky, before specifically calling out his co-stars.
“Thank you, my beautiful cast. I love you forever. I love to work with you, and I want us to be in each other’s lives forever. I love you so dearly,” he continued. “This show has changed my life. It is instilled a faith that change is possible if you are able to reach out. You are really, truly, never actually alone.”
Ebon Moss-Bachrach also took home the Emmy for best supporting actor for The Bear.
When creator Christopher Storer later took the win for best directing a comedy, the series set a new record for most wins in a single season for a comedy with 11, besting its own tally from last year when it won 10.
The 2024 Emmys are the second ones to take place this year, with the 2023 Emmys being pushed back due to the dual writers and actors strikes from last year.
Presenters at TV’s biggest night this year include Kristen Wiig, Viola Davis, Lily Gladstone, Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, Martin Short, Matt Bomer, Colin Farrell, Mindy Kaling, Jimmy Kimmel, Greta Lee, John Leguizamo, George Lopez, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Jean Smart.
This year’s nominees were led by FX’s Shogun (with 25 nominations) and The Bear (23, a comedy series record), Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building (21), HBO/Max’s True Detective: Night Country (19) and Netflix’s The Crown (18).
Netflix led all of the nominees with a total of 107 noms, followed by FX with 93, HBO with 91 and Apple TV+ with 72. Disney as a whole, which includes projects across FX, ABC, Hulu and Disney+, had a personal-best tally of 183 Emmy nominations this year.
The 76th annual Emmy Awards, co-hosted by father-son duo Eugene and Dan Levy, are broadcasting live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles from 5-8 p.m. PT/8-11 p.m. ET.
