Jerry Seinfeld Takes President Obama for a Ride in 'Comedians in Cars'

After sharing a ride and a few stories with the likes of Amy Schumer, Stephen Colbert and Louis C.K., the latest episode of Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee saw Jerry Seinfeld bend the rules a little and pick a man who’s “gotten off just enough funny lines to qualify for this show.”

The season 7 premiere, which was posted online on Wednesday, saw Seinfeld pulling up to the White House in a 1963 Corvette Stingray Split Window Coupe to call on President Barack Obama. Despite being the most powerful politician on Earth, however, even Obama wasn’t allowed to slip past security and the show had to take place on the White House grounds. Cue the surreal footage of Seinfeld and Obama driving around in circles in a vintage sports car, with president driving one handed and not doing that “whole 10 and 2 thing.“

After Seinfeld showed him the Corvette, Obama was keen to show off his presidential Cadillac limousine affectionately known as "The Beast”. Obama deadpanned that he “call a nuclear submarine right from here,” then teased Seinfeld: “You don’t have that do you? Its a cool feature. Plus it has seat warmers."

The show was generally lighthearted but Seinfeld did ask a couple of questions that had the president reflecting, most notably on losing his anonymity, cursing a lot to deal with the stresses of the job and the strangest night at the White House being the first night. But pretty soon it was back to the knockabout humor. Revelations included that Teddy Roosevelt would be the leader Obama would love to hang out with most, all his underwear is one brand and one color and that he has a closet like normal people.

Much like his appearance on Zach Galifianakis’ Between Two Ferns, Obama admitted that he only agreed to do the show so he could promote Obamacare and encourage enrollments and he managed to squeeze in a plug towards the end although Seinfeld made it as awkward as possible.
