Jesse Eisenberg (‘A Real Pain’) could join these 11 stars who wrote their Oscar-nominated roles
Having already collected a screenwriting award at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, “A Real Pain” scripter Jesse Eisenberg poses quite a serious threat in the upcoming Best Original Screenplay Oscar contest. Since he also stars in the dramedy from Searchlight due out November 1, he has the potential to become the 12th person to earn both acting and writing nominations at the Oscars. Scroll through our photo gallery to learn more about the nine single and two double entrants currently on that list.
All 11 stars wrote themselves leading roles. Although none of them won both of these Oscar races, five picked up prizes for their scripts while one – Roberto Benigni (“Life Is Beautiful,” 1999) – won for his acting. Unlike Eisenberg, a vast majority of his possible predecessors shared their screenplay nominations with other writers.
