Jessica Alba Defends Honest Company Amid Lawsuits on ‘Today’
Jessica Alba joined Today, where she was asked about the multiple lawsuits against the household products business she co-founded in 2011, the Honest Company. The complaints against the firm range from the effectiveness of some of its products, like the sunscreen, to whether or not the company purposely misled consumers into believing its products are all-natural.
The first suit came last September and claimed that hand soap, diapers, and a multisurface cleaner, along with other products, contained “synthetic materials” while being marketed as “natural.” The suit included the ineffectiveness of the sunscreen, which had already come under fire on social media, with people claiming to have been burned while using it.
As for Alba, she believes there are ulterior motives behind the suits.
“If an organization wants to bring awareness to their cause, I’m an easy target and our brand is an easy target obviously because I get different kind of attention than other brands would. It’s just sort of what happens,” Alba said.
Alba believes that Honest Company customers are savvy enough to research their products, and says she’s optimistic they’re going to win every case. And while the negative headlines continue to pile up, Alba is looking at the brighter side of things.
Alba told Today, “We’ve had a really positive effect on so many people’s lives and it’s a dream come true because that’s all I really wanted.”
