Jessica Simpson called out for joking about her 'diet goals' in Karl Lagerfeld tribute
Jessica Simpson‘s tribute to Karl Lagerfeld is raising some eyebrows.
After news broke that the iconic fashion designer died Tuesday at age 85, remembrances began pouring in on social media. Simpson shared a candid photo of her chatting with Lagerfeld at the 2005 Met Gala honoring Chanel, but it was a line in her caption that some found disrespectful. After praising Lagerfeld as a “true genius in the fashion world,” the pregnant star remarked that the shot of her is “after baby diet goals.”

“Maybe you could have left that last part out about your body goals seeing as this was meant to be a post about sending out condolences not about your body,” one person wrote. Another concurred, “Not the time Jess!!!”
“The last sentence in parentheses is so Jessica Simpson,” one follower remarked. “You had me up until that point.”
“That’s classic Jessica,” agreed another Instagram user. “Always putting her foot in her mouth. Love her but uh yeah.”
Another person commented, “That last part was awkward and uncomfortable.”
“Was your diet goals really necessary?” one follower asked, while another wrote, “So tacky…”
“Someone just died and she is talking about her weight,” another person said.
“Why bring your weight into this?” lamented one user.
Simpson had several followers defending her, however.
“Heard of a sense of humor… sometimes it helps to break pain,” someone wrote.
“Geez. People are so hurt and offended by EVERYTHING these days. Lighten up,” remarked another person.
“Karl wouldn’t mind you saying ‘after baby body goals.’ That’s why you’re so real and fun,” one woman pointed out.
“I think your diet comment was fine! Does anyone remember that Karl Lagerfeld would have said the same thing. I’m sure he would’ve made the same weight comment. He criticized every women’s weight at any time,” noted another woman.
Lagerfeld never had a problem telling it like it is — and that included weighing in on Simpson years ago.
“Ecch. I’m not that impressed. I’m not that interested. I’m not that impressed,” he said in 2006.
