Jessica Simpson clarifies story that Nick and Vanessa Lachey sent her a baby gift: 'I don’t know where that came from'
Jessica Simpson is clarifying a viral story that her ex-husband Nick Lachey and his wife Vanessa sent her a gift after the birth of her children. “I didn’t get a gift,” Simpson told radio host Andy Cohen.
This week, Simpson, 39, who is promoting her new memoir Open Book, appeared on Radio Andy hosted by TV host Andy Cohen. On-air, Cohn pressed the singer-designer about the alleged gift mentioned by Today host Hoda Kotb to Nick, 46, and Vanessa, 39, after Simpson appeared on the show. Vanessa, who has been married to Nick since 2011, denied sending Simpson a gift.
Cohen asked Simpson for her reaction to the Lachey interview. “Um, well, I don’t really know that I got a gift pe se,” she said. “But my gift with Nick is that he is happy and that he is married, and you know, he has three beautiful children and he’s a father and he’s celebrated for that, but, you know, I don’t really know...I mean, that’s really a gift to me because I thought that I crushed his heart. Because I don’t think he believed that I could actually grow up...”
Later, Cohen asked again: “So, did they send you a gift or did they not send you a gift for the baby?” to which Simpson replied, “I didn’t get a gift...I don’t know where that came from.”

During the February 3rd interview to promote their Netflix dating show Love is Blind, Kotb said to Nick and Vanessa, "...[Jessica] talked about how she has her life with her husband and her children and she was really, really happy for y'all. She kept saying, like 'They sent me something beautiful when we had our children,’ et cetera, et cetera. When I was learning about her, there was all this stuff I didn't know. I didn't know she'd been through this abuse, I didn't know she had drinking problems. Sometimes you don't even share that with the person you're closest to. Was this kind of news to you Nick, or were you kind of aware of what — "
Nick replied, “I’ll be honest, I obviously haven’t read the book so I don’t know what she said or what she revealed there, but certainly happy for her in her life and how she’s happy for us, and there’s definitely a mutual respect there....”
Looking confused, Vanessa said, “I feel bad, I'm sorry — you said somebody sent her... it wasn't us, but thank you whoever sent it from us!"
Kotb replied, "Yeah, she got something nice from you guys after, I don't remember, after some moment in her life and she thought it was sweet. So anyway, so she sort of was, like, saying kind of thanks to you guys."
"What'd you send her?" Nick asked his wife. Vanessa answered, "That's — I didn't. No, I didn't. I don't know her address. But thank you whoever sent it from us!"
After the Lachey’s awkward interview, Vanessa continued to dispute the gift-giving story on Twitter when users accused of her being petty. “Sorry you think that, just didn’t want to take credit for something we didn’t do. That’s all,” Vanessa replied to one. “Seems weird to ignore sending a big beautiful gift basket and taking that credit. Either way... hope you have a Beautiful day!”
“....We just wanted to clear the air. That’s all. Trust me! If I sent something, I’d take credit!” Vanessa added.
In her book, Simpson opens up about her marriage to Nick from 2002 to 2005, some of which was captured in their reality show Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, her high-profile romance with musician John Mayer, and an alcohol-and-pill addiction (she is now sober), among other revelations.
“We really got crushed by the media and by ourselves,” Simpson said, according to People. “I couldn’t lie to our fans and I couldn’t give somebody hope that we were this perfect golden couple.” She added, “We were young and pioneering our way through reality television, always mic’d and always on. We worked and we were great at it but when it came time to being alone, we weren’t great at it anymore.
Simpson has married to former NFL star Eric Johnson since 2014 and share three children: daughter Maxwell, 7, son Ace, 6, and daughter Birdie, 11 months. Nick and Vanessa are parents to son Camden, 7, daughter Brooklyn, 5, and son Phoenix, 3.
