Jessica Simpson Is Getting Dragged for Cute Back-To-School Pictures With Her 3 Kids — & the Reason Why Is Actually Valid
School is back in session for Jessica Simpson’s three kids! The proud mom was all smiles as she hugged her little ones in adorable pictures for their first day. But thanks to the internet’s tendency toward snarky comments, her post sparked major backlash.
The singer and fashion designer posted a carousel of photos on Wednesday of her and her kids Maxwell, 12, Ace, 11, and Birdie, 5, who she shares with husband Eric Johnson. “Maxwell, Ace and Birdie y’all make your Mom beam with smiles and grace!” Simpson wrote in the caption. “Keep on showin’ up for yourselves with each step of the way through this new school year!”

“I’m so very proud of y’all for individually shining your light so that in return others feel the glow. ??” she continued. In the first photo, Simpson looked stunning in a lime-green maxi dress. Maxwell stood next to her mom (already taller than her!) in a white polo shirt and blue plaid skirt, with Ace on Simpson’s other side in a red polo shirt and khaki shorts. Birdie stood front and center, looking adorable with her hand on her hip in the same plaid skirt as her older sister, but paired with a blue polo shirt, gray cardigan, and red and blue ribbons in her hair.
Other snaps included silly photos, like one where Maxwell and Ace hold up Birdie and another where they cross their arms and pout. The family’s dog even made an appearance in one photo, as Birdie proudly held him up for the camera. The back-to-school photos, which were all taken on the family’s front porch, are so cute; yet, eagle-eyed fans took issue with one detail they noticed — and their concerns are valid.
In the photo, you can see the name of the school the kids’ attend on their polo shirts. “Why would you publicly post your kids’ school name?! I’m not famous but no way I’d share where my kid goes to school publicly. This is wild,” one person wrote. Someone else said, “Edit out school on uniform … just sayin. Creepers out there.”
Other people were nice with their suggestions, “Jess, may want to blur out the school’s name & repost ??.”
Still, others disagreed. “Who cares that you can see where they go to school. Everyone knows celebrity kids go to the same school. Uniforms are the same. Y’all just want a reason to hate on her. ??” one person said.
We understand the concern — and definitely advocate for keeping your own kids’ schools out of public posts (as well as their teacher’s names). However, as a celebrity family, they are probably used to additional scrutiny in their lives and have taken precautions to keep their kids safe. At the very least, comments sensitive in nature like this should always be approached with kindness and grace rather than negativity.
The ”Irresistible” singer is used (unfortunately) used to causing drama online. Last month, she shared a selfie with her daughters as they watched Ace play basketball. “Cheerin’ for Ace with his sisters from the sidelines ??????,” she captioned the silly photo. Yet, she was called out on it because they didn’t like that Simpson playfully stuck her tongue out at her baby. People commented things like “Weird pose towards your child ????” as if there was anything wrong with making a funny face with your kid?
Even if the intentions are good, please take a moment before you decide to mom shame or comment something potentially hurtful on another parent’s post. We’re all just doing our best, and it’s good to remember that.
