Jessie Reyez has dropped a new single, “Shut Up,” featuring Big Sean. The anthemic, fast-talking number marks the first collaboration between the pair, who also teamed up for the song’s music video.

The video, directed by Priya Minhas, sees Reyez cruising in a vintage Ferrari convertible before arriving at a competition with a panel of judges comprised of singers JoJo and Nija, actress Inanna. The clip also features cameos from Reyez’s mom and Carmen.

“Shut Up” follows Reyez’s single “Jeans” with Miguel, which was released last year. Her last album, Yessie, dropped in 2022, while her debut studio album, Before Love Came to Kill Us, arrived in 2020. She has since collaborated with Sam Smith on their album Gloria, appearing on two tracks, “Perfect” and “Gimme.”

Earlier this year, Reyez appeared on an EP soundtrack to Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver. Lead character Kora (played by Sofia Boutella) inspired Reyez’s song “Child of Fire,” which the singer had already started writing before the offer to collaborate with Rebel Moon came to be.

“The theme of the song happened to parallel the movie, so it seemed very kismet,” Reyez told Rolling Stone, adding, “We massaged in minor lyric adjustments, but it was very organic; as if the song was made for the movie before we even knew we’d be given the opportunity to contribute.”

Reyez will tour Australia and New Zealand in September. A press release notes that she is gearing up to release new music, which is expected out later this year.
