Jidenna Loses The Love Of His Life To Lawrence In ‘Bambi’ Visual
Love and the complexities of it often leave us in a whirlwind of emotions. For Jidenna, losing his girl to the ultimate “good guy,” is bound to leave a mark.
The eclectic artist dropped the music video to his latest single “Bambi” on Thursday (Feb. 23), with a humorous approach. Starting off with a sultry montage of the artist with his leading lady played by actress Megalyn Echikunwoke, Jidenna is left alone running with faded memories of their relationship.
The melodic and fairytale-like tone of the track helps the lyrical wordplay of “Bambi,” a reference to the Disney classic film. Speaking to Rolling Stone, Jidenna also explained the influence of heroes like Harry Belafonte has on the song. “I didn’t grow up in a very musical household, but during the holidays, my mother used to always play Nat King Cole, good old Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin,” he said. “That song is a product of those moments when I’d be singing those melodies, those Harry Belafonte melodies, but fusing that with West African Highlife and trap music. I’ve never really made that many love records. That’s a special song to me to dig deep and show that side of myself.”
In the end, a drunk Jidenna crashes Bambi’s wedding to Jay Ellis, known infamously as Lawrence on Issa Rae’s hit series, Insecure.
