J.K. Simmons and 6 Other Actors Who Have Been in Both Marvel and DC Movies
The upcoming Justice League: Part One has added Oscar winner J.K. Simmons to its cast as Batman’s ally, possibly retired Commissioner Jim Gordon. Simmons, replacing Gary Oldman in the role, is no stranger to comic book movies — he played Jean Grey in X-Men. Kidding. He played J. Jonah Jameson in the Spider-Man franchise. This means Simmons will have appeared in both a Marvel movie and a DC movie. This isn’t the first time this kind of thing has happened.
You might have heard about Ryan Reynolds’s new indie arthouse flick, Deadpool. But between his turns as the Merc with a Mouth (let us not forget 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine), he was in Green Lantern. Ben Affleck is set to make his jump into the DC cinematic universe. The man who will be Batman in Batman vs. Superman was once in a Marvel movie, man. Remember Daredevil? Affleck probably hopes you don’t.
James Marsden was in X-Men and then Superman Returns. His X-Men co-star, Halle Berry, played Storm and then played the titular Catwoman in a performance good, er, bad enough to take home a Razzie.
Christian Bale: Heath Ledger ‘Completely Ruined My Plans’ for Batman:
J.K. Simmons isn’t the only Oscar winner to jump around. Tommy Lee Jones played Two-Face in Batman Forever. He left that train wreck for the first Captain America film, playing Colonel Phillips. And finally, the most noteworthy transition: Tim Robbins went from Howard the Duck, a Marvel movie universally agreed upon as being awful, to Green Lantern, a movie universally agreed upon as being awful. Tough luck, dude.
