Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga Find Love, Create Chaos in New ‘Joker 2’ Trailer
Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga are ready to “give the people what they want” in the new Joker 2 trailer.
In the latest glimpse of Joker: Folie à Deux, released Tuesday, director Todd Phillips teases what’s to come in the much-anticipated follow-up to 2019’s Academy Award-winning Joker. In the new trailer, Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck is finding himself being considered some sort of martyr and endured the “trial of the century.”

Throughout the trailer, Fleck deals with apparent stardom with Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn sharing that with Fleck for once she doesn’t feel so alone.
“You can do anything you want. You’re Joker,” she is overheard telling him in the trailer.
Phoenix’s Fleck/Joker is also seen in court yelling at everyone, “I will no longer allow any of you to keep me down!”
In Joker: Folie à Deux, Arthur Fleck is institutionalized at Arkham awaiting trial for his crimes as Joker. It is there where he finds true love and the “music that’s always been inside him,” Warner Bros. teases.
The Folie à Deux title references the term for an identical or similar mental disorder impacting two or more people, usually members of the same family.
Phillips first teased the film with a December 2022 Instagram post of Phoenix in character, and on Valentine’s Day 2023 the first-look at Lady Gaga in character with Phoenix was released. The first trailer premiered in April.
In addition to directing, Phillips also wrote Joker 2 alongside Scott Silver and produces the upcoming film. The film also stars Brendan Gleeson and Catherine Keener. Zazie Beetz will reprise her role from Joker.
Emma Tillinger Koskoff and Joseph Garner also produce with Phillips. Meanwhile, Michael E. Uslan, Georgia Kacandes, Silver, Mark Friedberg and Jason Ruder exec produce. Lady Gaga serves as music consultant.
Joker: Folie à Deux will be released worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures in theaters nationwide on Oct. 4, 2024.
