Joe Biden calls Lindsey Graham 'a personal disappointment': 'I was a personal friend of his'
On The Late Show Thursday night, Stephen Colbert asked President-elect Joe Biden if he has taken it personally that some Republicans have yet to acknowledge his win over President Donald Trump.
"No. Look, they're in a tough spot," Biden said. "I know everybody says, 'Well, they should just step up.' How can I say this? A number of them sent messages to me four weeks ago. 'Give me time, Joe, give me some time.' That's fine by me. That's fine by me. We won. We won Georgia three times."
While Biden told Colbert that he understands the position Republicans are in, when it comes to South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, whom both Joe and Jill Biden used to consider a great friend, Biden was honest with his perspective.
"Lindsey's been a personal disappointment, because I was a personal friend of his,” he said. “But look, I think I can work with the Republican leadership in the House and the Senate. I think we can get things done, and I think, once this president is no longer in office, I think you're going to see his impact on the body of politics fade and a lot of these Republicans are going to feel they have much more room to run and cooperate."
The Late Show With Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on CBS.
