Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner Speak Out After Reaching Temporary Custody Agreement

The former couple is parents to daughters Willa, 3, and Delphine, 15 months

Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner are speaking out after coming to a temporary custody agreement for their two daughters.

The musician, 34, and the Game of Thrones alum, 27, shared a joint statement Tuesday after reaching a temporary agreement for custody of their two daughters — Willa, 3, and Delphine, 15 months — through early 2024.

"After a productive and successful mediation, we have agreed that the children will spend time equally in loving homes in both the U.S. and the UK. We look forward to being great co-parents," the former couple said in a statement.

In court documents obtained by PEOPLE on Tuesday, an interim consent order laid out custody of the estranged couple's daughters for the coming weeks after being "engaged in a productive mediation from Oct. 4-7."

The agreement only extends through Jan. 7, so for the future, the agreement requires "that the parties shall jointly submit a status report letter" prior to Dec. 23, outlining the status of mediation between the two at that point.

The mediation comes after Turner sued her estranged husband for wrongful retention, alleging that Jonas was withholding their passports and not allowing them to return to England. The complaint against the musician called for "the immediate return of children wrongfully removed or wrongfully retained," with Turner's legal team asserting the "wrongful retention" began on Sept. 20.

Shortly after Turner filed her complaint, Jonas released a statement disputing her claimsand saying that he believed the two had reached an agreement to work on a co-parenting plan.

Just a few days later, the two reached a temporary agreement to keep their two daughters in New York City, according to documents filed in New York and obtained by PEOPLE.

The interim consent order stated that Turner and Jonas had to keep their kids in the Southern and Eastern districts of New York, which includes New York City, Long Island and the Hudson Valley.

On Sept. 5, the musician filed for a dissolution of marriage in Miami from his wife of four years. The filing claimed that "the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken." Per the divorce filing, the couple have a prenup in place.

The divorce filing also included a reference to the couple's two kids, saying "A parenting plan should be established, which addresses all parenting issues and contains a timesharing schedule providing for frequent and continuing contact with both parties. The children have been residing with their father in Miami and other locations throughout the United States."
