Joey Fatone Is Back on Broadway—Singing NSYNC *and* Backstreet Boys Hits!
Don’t say ‘Bye Bye Bye’ to & Juliet just yet because your nostalgic wishes are about to come true: Joey Fatone of NSYNC is joining the cast as Lance Du Bois and will perform some of his greatest hits from the group, as well as songs from the Backstreet Boys. You can expect Fatone’s vocals on songs such as “It’s Gonna Be Me,” “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” and “As Long As You Love Me.”
“I’m excited that I’ll be joining the cast of & Juliet!,” Fatone shared. “I can’t wait to get out there and sing Max Martin’s amazing songs — his hits have shaped so much of pop music.”
And although the NSYNC alum is thrilled to take a new spin on his old hits, he can’t wait to sing songs by the Backstreet Boys, too. Despite the common misconception of boy band rivalry, Fatone admits the Backstreet Boys have released some bops.
“And yes, I know I’ll even be singing a couple of Backstreet Boys songs,” he said. “Even though my loyalty remains with NSYNC, they still have bangers. See you at the show!”
When will Joey Fatone join the cast of ‘& Juliet’?
Joey Fatone’s 9-week engagement in & Juliet kicks off on January 21, 2025 and runs through March 16. He will be taking over for Paulo Szot, the original cast member. Fatone will star alongside Maya Boyd (Juliet), Alison Luff (Anne), Drew Gehling (Shakespeare), Michael Iván Carrier (May), Jeannette Bayardelle (Angélique), Liam Pearce (Romeo), and Nathan Levy (Fran?ois).
But this isn’t Joey Fatone’s first time on the Broadway stage. The musician formerly made his Broadway debut in 2002, when he took the stage as Mark in RENT, and again in 2004 as Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors.
What is ‘& Juliet’ about?
& Juliet is a whole new take on a classic tragic love story. This version is the life Juliet would have lived had she not given her everything to Romeo and started fresh. & Juliet sees Juliet get a second chance at life and love as she embarks on a new journey. & Juliet features songs from today’s greatest artists such as Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone?” Katy Perry’s “Roar,” Britney Spears’ “Baby One More Time,” all of which were written by Swedish songwriter and producer, Max Martin.
& Juliet first opened on Broadway in 2022 after originally premiering in Manchester, England at Manchester Opera House in 2019. The cast made their debut at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre and have since received 9 Tony Award nominations.
The writer behind & Juliet, David West Read, is also one of the fabulous writers behind a little show called Schitt’s Creek, so it’s no wonder & Juliet is such a smashing success. As for why he chose to do a rendition of Romeo & Juliet — Read says it just made sense.
“Like all great pop music, Romeo & Juliet is about young love and heartbreak, and the thought of Juliet getting her second chance through the songs of Britney Spears, Katy Perry and Ariana Grande made me smile,” Read shared.
