John Cena loses to Roman Reigns: Is retirement next?
On Sunday night’s WWE No Mercy 2017, John Cena was defeated by Roman Reigns in what appears to be a passing of the torch for the superstar. Rumors of retirement have been swirling around Cena, something he addressed after the match.
“I’m 40 years old. And I have 15 years of track experience here in the WWE and not in a normal level. At an elite level. And I don’t know how [much] longer I can keep it up,” Cena said.
Cena has been the face of the WWE for some time, and it appears the WWE is angling to transition Reigns into that spot. After the match, Cena raised Reigns’s hand and pointed to him as the crowd cheered. Even if Cena plays a smaller role in the WWE, he’ll never be too far away.
“This is my family. This is my life. I eat, breathe, and sleep WWE,” Cena said, adding, “I guess I’ll be a weird Batman character. When they shine the light, I’ll come runnin’.”
Cena wouldn’t be the first to call it quits after a loss to Reigns. Longtime WWE superstar the Undertaker retired after losing to Reigns earlier this year.
