John Cleese Torches Recent Donald Trump Speech, Says GOP Nominee Has “Lost His Mind”

John Cleese is no fan of Donald Trump, but the Monty Python legend is now starting to question the former U.S. president’s mental acuity.

In a string of posts on X (formerly Twitter), Cleese was in an acerbic mood about a speech made by 78-year-old Trump in Potterville, MI, last week.

The British multi-hyphenate’s rant was seemingly inspired by an MSNBC op-ed, in which political writer Zeeshan Aleem transcribed a chunk of Trump’s address.

The 2024 Republican nominee’s string of consciousness bounces from Kamala Harris’ policies, to his San Francisco property record, and where he ranks among “horribly treated” ex-presidents. You can watch the moment below.

“It shows beyond doubt that he has lost his mind,” Cleese remarked. “Please go to MSNBC and read it.” He later described Trump as a “deranged man” and encouraged people not to vote for him.

“I’m afraid Trump’s toast,” Cleese added, arguing that he had a right to comment on the U.S. election because he has paid tax in the country since 1964.

The comments echoed some of the attack lines Trump used against Joe Biden before he made way for Harris in the race to the White House. Trump described Biden as “Sleepy Joe” and said he was a “mental catastrophe.”

Deadline has contacted the Trump campaign for comment.
