John Krasinski returning for Jack Ryan movie

Jack Ryan is suiting up again. 

John Krasinski is set to reprise his role as Tom Clancy’s intrepid CIA analyst in a feature film from Amazon MGM Studios. The film is described as an extension of the Prime Video spy thriller series “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” and an “evolution of the franchise.”

Wendell Pierce, who starred alongside Krasinski in the series as Ryan’s boss James Greer, is also confirmed to reprise his role, while Michael Kelly is in negotiations to return as CIA agent Mike November. 

Andrew Bernstein, who served as an executive producer and director on Season 2 of the series, is directing the film from a script penned by Aaron Rabin, who served as a co-executive producer and writer on Season 4 of the series. Krasinski and Allyson Seeger are producing via Krasinski’s company Sunday Night. Andrew Form is also producing. The film is produced in association with Paramount Pictures and Skydance. Skydance’s David Ellison and Dana Goldberg will executive produce alongside John Kelly and Carlton Cuse. Plot details for the film are being kept under wraps for now.

“Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” is one of Prime Video’s top three most-watched series globally, according to the streaming service. It ran for four seasons on Prime Video from 2018 to 2023. 

Before the series, Jack Ryan was a movie hero, played in films by Alec Baldwin in “The Hunt for Red October,” Harrison Ford in “Patriot Games” and “Clear and Present Danger,” Ben Affleck in “The Sum of All Fears,” and Chris Pine in “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit,” so this will be something of a return to form the character. He was created by late author Tom Clancy in his debut novel, 1984’s “The Hunt for Red October,” and continues on in novels to this day. 

“Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” earned three Emmy nominations over the course of its run, two for special visual effects and one for sound editing.
