Everybody will be in LA every week — and by “everybody,” we mean John Mulaney, and by “in LA,” we mean “live on Netflix.”

The comedian will host, executive-produce, and co-showrun an as-yet-untitled live variety talk show on Netflix starting in early 2025, the streamer’s chief content officer Bela Bajaria announced at the Bloomberg Screentime conference on Thursday (via The Hollywood Reporter). The show will build upon the success of Mulaney’s Emmy-nominated talk show “John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in LA,” the live format Netflix launched earlier this year.

That show did six live episodes featuring sketches, field pieces, celebrity interviews, musical guests, and more. And now Netflix officially wants more.

“We have a long relationship with John, and we have done the stand-up specials, and during Netflix Is a Joke Festival this year, he did a live talk show called ‘Everybody’s in LA,’” Bajaria said at the conference. “I was there at a couple of the tapings, and it was so bold and original and fresh and unprecedented, unpredictable. And I think it’ll be really fun to get to do a live show with him.”

Netflix has been mostly unsuccessful at creating late night-style programming so far, with attempts like Chelsea Handler’s “Chelsea” and Hasan Minhaj’s “Patriot Act” not working out as well as the streamer hoped. But Mulaney’s show is a renewed effort in the space as Netflix makes a big push into live programming. “I think we have to continue to be bold and take risks and swings,” Bajaria said. “And I think it would be too easy and too safe to go, oh, well, you know talk hasn’t worked, so let’s not try this next thing. So I’m excited about pushing into another area.”

John Mulaney is a three-time Emmy winner and 20-time nominee, including two Outstanding Writing for a TV Special wins for his stand-up specials “Kid Gorgeous” and “Baby J.”
