Jonas Brothers reveal the song they fight back tears performing
The Jonas Brothers are family. And like any family, they need to strike a balance between work, life and too much time spent together.
Of course, Nick, Kevin and Joe aren’t your average brothers. They rose to fame under the Disney television and music machine in the mid-2000s, took some time to pursue separate endeavors and then reunited in 2019 to a lot of fanfare (and a comeback debut No. 1 single in "Sucker").
"We’re with each other a lot, so there are some times that we really enjoy being apart," says Kevin, 35. All three brothers chatted with USA TODAY virtually from separate locations. "But I think we work in tandem really well together. We’ve found ways to work through conflict, work through problems but at the same time, enjoy the times we’re working together."

The Jonas Brothers are continuing that work with "The Album" (out Friday). It’s the band's sixth LP and the first where the three can all share a similar perspective as both fathers and husbands. Kevin has two daughters with his wife Danielle. Joe also has two daughters with his wife Sophie Turner. And Nick has a daughter with his wife Priyanka Chopra.
"I think it’s like a thing where (before) one of us was out on a boat or something and the other was home with kids. There was a clear difference in what our realities are on an everyday basis," says Nick, 30. Now, he adds, "There’s a better understanding and awareness of where we’re all at, and that’s totally reflected in the music."
The music of "The Album" draws on influences from acts before the brothers’ time: Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles and the Bee Gees are a few. Singer/songwriter Jon Bellion (Justin Bieber, Maroon 5, Halsey) serves as the album’s executive producer. The final product is a summer-ready sound with plenty of catchiness. There are also a few subjects covered on "The Album" the band has never sung about before. "Little Bird" talks about the importance of a father/daughter relationship and is among their new favorites to perform live.
"It’s one of those tunes where you’re fighting back tears," says Joe, 33. "It’s an emotional tune and we all kind of go, 'OK, here we go' when we see it on the set list."
The Jonas Brothers released two singles ahead of the LP: "Wings" and "Waffle House." And a remix of the latter, along with two exclusive performances from their Royal Albert Hall show last month will be available a day before the album’s release through the game Candy Crush Saga. All three will also appear in the game as "Candified" characters.
"For us, finding fans where they are and releasing music early … we like giving things away before the actual product is there," Kevin explains. Although it’s not just fans who like playing Candy Crush Saga."I think Priyanka Chopra Jonas potentially has the highest level on Candy Crush," reveals Nick, with both Kevin and Joe immediately interjecting: "She’s crushing."
"(She) loves it. She plays all the time," says Nick of his wife.
