Jonathan Majors Fired From Kang the Conqueror MCU Role
After the verdict was revealed earlier today, Jonathan Majors has been fired from the roles of Kang the Conqueror and his variants by Marvel Studios.
Deadline received confirmation from a Marvel Studios rep that Majors has been dropped after being found guilty on two counts earlier this afternoon. In total, Majors was found guilty of assault in the third degree while recklessly causing physical injury, as well as guilty of harassment in the second degree. Majors was also found not guilty of assault in the third degree with intent to cause physical injury, and not guilty of aggravated harassment in the second degree.
The studio had originally introduced Majors as He Who Remains in the first season of Loki. This character was a variant of the time-travelling villain Kang the Conqueror, who prominently appeared as the antagonist in this year’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The superhero sequel ended with a teaser involving several Kang variants — played by Majors — preparing for a multiversal war. Another variant, Victor Timely, appeared in Loki Season 2.
Nothing has been revealed about Marvel’s plans for the character of Kang going forward, though worth noting is that a major aspect of the character is his many different variants, which could allow for a fairly simple recast.
What was Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania about?
“Super Heroes Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and The Wasp,” reads the movie’s synopsis. “Together, with Hope’s parents Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), and Scott’s daughter Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought possible.”
