Melissa McCarthy, Clive Owen to Star in JonBenét Ramsey Limited Series at Paramount+
As previously announced, the official description for the series states it will follow “the Ramsey family, before and after the tragedy as they go through the painful loss of a child while facing intense public scrutiny caused by a media frenzy that caused this case to captivate an entire nation. At the heart of the series, it is the story of Patsy (McCarthy) and John Ramsey (Owen) – exploring the unbreakable partnership of these two complex people – as husband and wife, as mother and father – who had committed themselves and their children to building the narrative of a perfect, privileged life only to have it destroyed one Christmas night in 1996.
Mitchell will play JonBenét Ramsey. She will next be seen in the upcoming film “The Apprentice,” which stars Sebastian Stan as a young Donald Trump. Mitchell’s other credits include the films “Ordinary Angels,” “Priscilla,” and “Out of My Mind,” and shows such as “What We Do in the Shadows” and “Ghosts.”
She is repped by Ritter Talent Agency.
Hedlund will play Detective Steve Thomas, described as “a seasoned detective who is brought onto the Jonbenét case.” This marks Hedlund’s second Paramount+ series, as he currently stars in the streamer’s mobster series “Tulsa King” opposite Sylvester Stallone. Season 2 of that show debuts on Sept. 15. Hedlund is also known for his work in films like “Four Brothers,” “Tron: Legacy,” “Troy,” “Friday Night Lights,” and “Inside Llewyn Davis.”
He is repped by WME, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, Sloane Offer, and The Initiative Group.
Pill will play Detective Linda Arndt, said to be “a Boulder, Colorado police detective. Arndt and partner Detective Trujillo are the first detectives on the scene after Jonbenét Ramsey is reported missing/kidnapped.”
This is also Pill’s second Paramount+ series, as she previously starred in “Star Trek: Picard” for two seasons. She recently reprised her role from the film “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” in the Netflix animated series “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.” Her other TV credits include “Hello, Tomorrow” at Apple TV+, “Devs” at FX, “Them” at Amazon, and “The Newsroom” at HBO.
She is repped by The Burstein Company and CAA.
Teague will play Jeff Shapiro, described as a “cocky risk taker” and “a reporter for the Globe tabloid.” Teague recently starred in the blockbuster film “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” and the two new “It” films. He previously appeared in the miniseries “The Stand” on CBS All Access (now Paramount+) and in shows like “Mrs. Fletcher” at HBO and “Bloodline” at Netflix.
He is repped by CAA and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
Richard LaGravense, Harrison Query, and Tommy Wallach are writers and executive producers on the series, with LaGravense also serving as showrunner. Query and Wallach sold the project to MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios. Four of the eight episodes will be directed by executive producer Anne Sewitsky. David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, and David Hutkin of 101 Studios also executive produce, with McCarthy executive producing in addition to starring.
