Josh Brolin sleeps with nicotine pouches in his mouth, got 7 cavities from nicotine lozenges
"I have a pouch in my lip, and I'm not f—ing lying, 24 hours a day."
Josh Brolin can't get enough Zyns.
The No Country for Old Men star discussed his love for nicotine pouches during an interview with Marc Maron on his podcast WTF. "I have a pouch in my lip, and I'm not f—ing lying, 24 hours a day," Brolin said. "Then I started taking them out and putting them on the bedside table."
Brolin's nicotine pouch usage is so extensive that he's not even conscious every time he pops one in his mouth. "My wife would hear this in the middle of the night," he said, popping his Zyn package open into the microphone. "I don't even know I'm doing it, I'm asleep."
The actor's habit occasionally implicates his children. "My kid would pick it up at two years old, which is really — maybe there's not any nicotine, maybe there's not any danger, but if she puts it in her mouth, she's gonna get sick," he said. "And instead of stopping, I try and teach them, 'Don't do that. Stay away from daddy's s—. Daddy needs that.'"
Brolin also said that prior to using nicotine pouches, he preferred nicotine lozenges — which caused a dental disaster. "They go away in two seconds, but they taste like gasoline, and there's a punch to them," he explained. "But I used to keep them up between my gum and my tooth line. I got seven cavities. That's why I switched to [pouches]. There's a ton of sugar [in lozenges]."
Problems sometimes arise when Brolin doesn't have consistent to access to his beloved pouches — especially when he was shooting a film overseas. "I'm in the Middle East, and I start running out," he recalled, noting that a local merchant approached him with bigger doses than his usual 6 mg pouches. "We're in Jordan, and he comes up to me, and he says, 'I have some,' and it has a skull and crossbones on the top, and it's 40 milligram packets. And I said, 'I can't do that.'"

But Brolin became desperate as his stay went on. "I probably have four or five more tins left, and I have his thing in my pocket, and I had gone to the gym, and I'm running back from the gym, and I go, 'F—, man, I can't, I have to keep mine,'" he recalled. Using the massive contraband dosage was as unwise as he expected: "I stick the thing in my mouth for no more, and I swear to God on my kids, for no more than 20 seconds, and I had to cancel dinner that night. I literally was s—ting my brains out."
